The low-price supermarket has confirmed the county will get more stores following an announcement it intends to open a further 80 shops across the country during 2016.

No locations have been revealed but the firm has already announced a new store as part of the Fox Valley scheme in Stocksbridge, where a 20,000 sq ft store is being built.

Around 30 jobs are to be created at the new Fox Valley store, which is set to open in the next few months.

The anchor store at Fox Valley was originally planned to be run by supermarket giant Tesco, creating 250 jobs, but the company pulled out earlier this year.

A spokesman said: “There will be stores opening in the South Yorkshire area this year although we can’t comment on opening dates or jobs at this stage.”

Aldi has announced it will be recruiting around 5,000 new workers this year, including hundreds of store managers and deputy managers.

Ruth Doyle, Aldi Regional Managing Director, said: “To support our continued expansion and the ongoing performance of our existing stores, it’s important that we attract the right candidates across all of our roles.

“We’re looking for individuals with a real passion for retail who are seeking a long-term career with a growing and ambitious business.

“Aldi provides all staff with extensive training and development opportunities to ensure they have the necessary skills to make a real success of their career.”

The new £42m retail development at Stocksbridge aims to create a new town centre and will also include a pharmacy and medical centre as well as extra retail or leisure units.
