Alan Biggs: Never mind the top six...what about the top two for Sheffield Wednesday?

So says Gary Megson, the manager who set the ball rolling on a Sheffield Wednesday revival that he believes is now becoming “unstoppable.”

Not that the former Owls player and boss finds any fault with owner Dejphon Chansiri or his inspired choice of head coach, Carlos Carvalhal.

It’s just that he feels club and team can surprise even their own supporters, if not themselves.

“I think they have the capacity to win automatic promotion,” said Megson when we met for his first in-depth interview since being at the centre of one of the most controversial sackings in Hillsborough history.

“Once you get that momentum going, it’s a big thing.

“It becomes unstoppable, you couldn’t stop it if you wanted to.”

Megson, who’d still “love” to return one day, says he appreciates Chansiri putting his money where his mouth is – without opening it too often for any other reason as a low profile operator.

“The chairman is doing brilliantly and the manager is doing a terrific job,” he said.

Having and keeping Fernando Forestieri fit could be vital to a top two push from eight points behind.

And Megson made this revelation: “I told Forestieri’s agent that if I came back into a job he’d be the first player I’d go for.

“He’s a Premier League player and Wednesday have done really well to get him.”
