A GROUP of airport supporters will be flexing their muscles next month as they prepare to pull a fire engine over 500 yards all in aid of charity.
The Friends of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, whose members now come from near and far, will be tugging the 32-tonne fire engine from the control tower to the airport fire station to raise money for Help for Heroes.
Organiser Stuart Allen said: “The aim of FODSA is to support and promote the airport at each and every opportunity. We also try to help out a local charity each year by coming up with different ways of raising money.
“For 2011, we chose Help for Heroes and we hope that this event will raise enough money to help us reach our £1000 target.”
Tony Lonsdale, chief fire officer said: “We are backing the event all the way, it’s for a great cause and some of our crew personnel have already offered their services.”
The charity event will take place at the fire station, Old Bawtry Road Finningley, on Sunday, September 11, from 11am.
