Air ambulance lands on Sheffield street after crash

A Sheffield susburb came to a standstill when an air ambulance landed in the middle of the street after a road crash.

An elderly woman was injured in a collision with a black Vauxhall Astra on Selborne Road, Crosspool, at 9.50am.

An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene and landed on nearby Sandygate Road.

Police officers sealed off the area while medics treated the casualty.

She was taken to hospital in an ambulance by road.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called at around 9.50am this morning to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a black Vauxhall Astra, in Selbourne Road, near to Sandygate Road, Sheffield.

"Roads around Selborne Road are closed while emergency services respond.

"The closure is expected to remain for approximately another hour. Motorists are advised that there may be delays in the local area and to plan alternative routes if possible.

"The pedestrian, an elderly woman, has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries."

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 236 of June 2.
