The Republic of Ireland international had a medical with Wednesday medical staff last night after the Toffees had agreed terms with two Championship clubs for the 29-year-old.

And Wednesday are hopeful that one more player will join McGeady in making the move to Hillsborough, with a central midfielder now believed to be the top priority.

The Owls beat off competition from Leeds and Blackburn Rovers for McGeady, while it is also thought that Sevilla were interested.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez said: “It seems very close. We’ve agreed terms with two teams in the Championship. It’s just a matter of time before one of the deals is clinched.

“Aiden needs to play and it’s a really good opportunity for him to do that in a very demanding fixture list for a team that can get a really good tempo into Aiden for the Euros.

With just the league to concentrate on now after Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at League One Shrewsbury, Wednesday are determined to strengthen their wing options. The Owls’ hierarchy have been searching the market for someone with pace and trickery and McGeady fits the bill.

Boss Carlos Carvalhal said: “To come into our team, they must improve us and give extra value to the team.

“I understand that especially in the January market that you must be with players that understand and know the competition and can improve the team. It is crucial they have experience as English football is very hard and difficult.

“We will see what happens. We are with attention and let’s see if we can do something.”

Meanwhile, left back Rhoys Wiggins is to join Bournemouth.
