Ahoy there, me hearties ...

CAPERS in the Caribbean featured in an original play staged by Sheffield schoolchildren to celebrate the end of the academic year.

Coconut Island featured more than 130 pupils from Crosspool's Lydgate Juniors - over a quarter of the youngsters attending the school.

The story featured a group of children who find a message in a bottle, which when opened magically transports them to a tropical island packed with pirates and mermaids.

Stars of the show included Year 6 pupils Rowan Croft and Taurai Mbakada, while music was provided by Katherine Hall on the flute.

Musical co-ordinator Charlotte Ridsdale said the show had been a real hit with everyone who had seen it.

"The children worked really hard on the play.

"We had a regular after school rehearsal for seven months and at lunch times too, whenever we could get things done," Charlotte added.
