LABOUR politicians are to host a fundraising event tomorrow as part of celebrations for International Women’s Day.

Yorkshire MEP Linda McAvan and Stocksbridge and Penistone MP Angela Smith have invited 135 women to afternoon tea at Wortley Hall.

Women’s suffrage expert Dr Jill Liddington will speak at the event, which will raise money for education for girls in Pindi, Pakistan.

Ms McAvan said: “In Pakistan just one in three girls is literate - half the figure for men.”
