Affordable housing for Haxey

An application has been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council by Dennis Sowerby seeking permission for the buildings to the rear of numbers 32 and 34 Low Street, and to the east of Haxey Lane.

A number of properties proposed would be situated in the applicant’s back garden.

The plans are for 12 new mixed dwellings to respond to local housing need. Crucially the scheme will deliver a range of smaller properties which will be market available and will provide an opportunity for the first time buyer or elderly residents looking to down-size.

Provision is also made for two properties to be made available to a Registered Social Landlord to meet the need for affordable housing in rural settlements.

The plans involve five two-bedroom houses, one with three bedrooms and four with four or more bedrooms, along with the two two-bedroom properties for social housing.

Objections have been received from Haxey residents concerned about access to the site from the A161, a “very dangerous road”.

In a statement to the council they said: “With current traffic levels it would be foolish and dangerous to agree to something which would increase further traffic volume.”

Architects Globe Consultants explained: “It is considered that this site forms an obvious and sensible infill site within an established residential area.”

They added: “The site effectively brings together various parcels of land to propose a comprehensive and well-considered development which would not have been possible through piecemeal development.”
