Advice over callers at home

TRADING Standards officers are urging residents to be vigilant to avoid falling victim to rogue doorstep traders.

Residents are being urged not to sign up for services on the spot and to always check the identity of traders calling unannounced.

They are advised to shop around for best prices and not hand over cash deposits.

Kevin Parkinson, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “No one should feel pressured into making a rash buying decision. If in doubt always think twice and get a second opinion.

“In Derbyshire our Trusted Trader scheme means there’s absolutely no reason for residents to employ a tradesman who calls at their door uninvited. We have over 1,300 traders vetted by our trading standards officers before they are allowed to join.”
