Adventure runners-up

A TEAM of kids from two Rotherham schools was pipped at the post in a major outdoor adventure event.

The youngsters from Aston Comprehensive and Kelford School at Kimberworth finished second in the 2007 Kielder Challenge Plate Final.

The Rotherham team competed against more than 250 schools from across the UK.

Organised by the Fieldfare Trust and supported by HSBC bank, the Kielder Challenge is a national outdoor adventure competition for teams of eight 13-to-16-year-olds with and without learning, sensory and physical disabilities.

The team competed against five teams at the two-day final in Kielder Forest in Northumberland but were beaten by Bishop’s of Hereford Bluecoat School from Hereford.

However, the Rotherham schools did win the Fieldfare Award for best team integration and communication.

The team was Carl Biggin, Jack Barton, Simon Keyworth, Andrew Owen, Daniel Hallam, Michael Smith, Shanice Gunn and Bradley Worsnop.
