Adult learners celebrate success

PEOPLE who have returned to education as adults were celebrating last night at a Doncaster Council awards ceremony in their honour.

Adult learners and their families and friends were invited to an evening of celebration at Doncaster Dome for those who have completed courses.

The council said the event was a chance to acknowledge a diverse range of local learning successes ranging from two-hour taster sessions to longer courses.

Guest speaker at the ceremony was Doncaster Council chairman Coun Tony Sockett.

He said the evening was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate their success amongst family and friends.

Coun Sockett added: "Adult learning has such a positive impact on individuals, relations and their communities and I hope many attending the ceremony are spurred on to continue further learning in the future."

Adult learner Tony Martin, who has passed a City and Guilds certificate, added: "This was my first attempt at Further Education since leaving school and I was apprehensive of starting to study.
