The polls have opened in Sheffield for council and mayoral elections and that can only mean one thing.

That's right - #dogsatpollingstations has returned.

Elections are being held in 150 local authorities while the first-ever mayor for the Sheffield City Region is going to be chosen.

Polling stations around England opened at 7am and voters, as well as their dogs, have been heading to vote throughout the morning.

'#dogsatpollingstations' started trending on Twitter almost as soon as the polls opened for today's elections.

Dogs have already been photographed at polling stations in Sheffield and the craze looks set to continue throughout the day.
