Adkins reaction: How Sheffield United fans on social media responded to manager's sacking

Nigel Adkins was today sacked as manager of Sheffield United with the club stating that this was 'the correct time for change'.

Adkins was appointed last summer, with three League One promotions on his CV at Scunthorpe and Southampton and many felt that this was the man who could finally take United out of the division.

However, a hammering at the hands of Gillingham in the opening day set the tone for a campaign littered with shocking performances with only the odd short run offering hope that the team may sneak into the play-offs.

As it turned out United finished 11th - their worst end to a season in over 30 years.

Here is a look at how Blades fans reacted on social media to the news today:

@DDunne91 - He had to go. Would've been a nightmare had he signed 10 players then got sacked at Xmas then the new man stuck with his players #sufc

@juanclarkio - I'll always support the club but they're not getting my money while it's being run like a Sunday league team #sufc

@Danny_Willey - Yes he's had a terrible season but it's getting embarrassing now we sack a manager every year near enough, no stability

@iambravestarr - 11 months ago,I genuinely thought Adkins would turn this club around, however no sign of prgression #ontothenextone #sufc

@AdamParr - When a manager questions the fans then he never really stood a chance, especially with results this season. #sufc #twitterblades

@woseph - Wilson...Clough...Adkins. The managerial merry-go-round gathers pace. Wilder next for a quick ride? #sufc

@DominicWadding2 - Great guy, wrong team, wrong tactics. At least Hammond and co won't be back #sufc

@joe_chopper - Statistics show that by the year 2025 you will never be more than 100 metres away from a former Sheffield United manager.

@Brighton_Blade - Mixed emotions about Adkins leaving. We need consistency, but we needed to see more to believe Nigel was a safe pair of hands #sufc #blades
