A SHEFFIELD school has been placed in the top 66 schools in the country which have made strong progression in English, according to official figures.

RAISEonline, a statistical comparison of all schools nationally, showed that 78 per cent of students at Sheffield Park exceeded expectations in English last year, compared to 64 per cent in 2011 and 67 per cent nationally.

Helen Willan, the academy’s head of English, said: “Since the formation of the academy in 2006, we have seen a significant improvement in the levels of literacy among our students - a credit to the hard work and dedication of students and staff alike.”

The academy, on Beaumont Road North, was also one of the most improved schools in Sheffield in recently released league tables.
