South Yorkshire firefighters dealt with an abandoned car set alight in an arson attack.

They were alerted to the blaze in Packman Lane, Harthill, Rotherham, at 10.50pm last night but were unable to tell the make or model of the car involved.

At 12.30am today firefighters dealt with a Volkswagen Golf fund burning in Edmunds Road, Worsbrough Dale, Barnsley.

An investigation is underway but it is thought the fire was started deliberately.

This morning firefighters dealt with a conifer and shed which caught fire after a cigarette was dropped in Seagrave Avenue, Gleadless Townend, Sheffield.

They were also called out to two industrial bins found burning in Eldon Street, Barnsley.

The cause is not yet known.

Last night firefighters dealt with a fire on wasteland off Green Lane, Shalesmoor, Sheffield.
