A sure sign of summer - the swallow

Have your say

With summer visitors now here in abundance, one of the last in is the swift.

My locals have been around for a couple of weeks and I have seen a few generally, but around 300 at Treeton is a great record. There were also 120 house martins and 20 or so swallows. On the River Don, in Rotherham Centre there were 1- to 20 sand martins around the usual colony. A red kite over Redmires is always good to hear of. Sedge warblers are singing in suitable habitats across the region.
