A revenge mission for struggling Eagles side

It is now time to stand up and be counted for Sheffield Eagles as they prepare to take on Dewsbury Rams tomorrow evening.

The Eagles have an opportunity to arrest their recent slide by evening the score with a Rams side that have already beaten them earlier in the season.

Mark Aston’s troops have been tangled on the ropes in recent weeks as they look for a solution to their early season woes.

The Eagles chief has called out members of his struggling side to lead by example, as he awaits a reaction to the recent heavy defeat at home to London Broncos.

“Individuals need to have a look at themselves and say ‘what I have I got to do to help us become successful’,” a bullish Aston said ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park. “We are knocked, we are battered but out of this adversity I am looking for some players to stand up and come out the other side. We need lads to stand up and say, ‘get out of the way and let me sort this out’. I am waiting for that, and I have been waiting for some time, but it can be done.”

It hasn’t all been doom and gloom for Eagles, with the victory at Bradford proof that they are force to be reckoned with on their day. Last Friday was the biggest setback to date, but Aston believes that a change in mentality will go a long way to improving his side’s fortunes.

“We need to have a hard look at ourselves, and work out how we can be better,” he added philosophically.

“If we all share that mentality then we can get out of this bad run.”

If Aston fails in his attempt to add a couple of loan signings to his squad, then he knows he will have use all his motivational abilities to pick up a side which he admits is currently finding the going tough.

“I’m not saying that the lads are not trying, it is just that it appears that some of the enthusiasm is being sucked out of them,” he continued.

“I know I have to try and freshen it up. We know that we have got to keep working hard, and if we keep doing the right things then we will get to where we need to get to.”
