A jolly Roger in the family

Have your say

Stacks of folk who research their family tree are desperate to uncover some claim to long ago fame.

But unless they’re on Who Do You Think You Are, they usually find little to boast about.

A mere three per cent have links to royalty. Most discover their ancestors were servants and war heroes, say family history website Ancestry.co.uk.

Though you could be the descendant of someone racy; one person in 100 is related to a pirate and one in 20 Brits a convict.

Being the long-lost of a villain or a swashbuckling vagabond... cool. I’d blame all my parking tickets on the ancestors.
