42nd Street, The Lyceum

Lost in world of bright lights

COME and meet, the dancing feet, at forty-second street…

From the moment the lights begin to dim and the first toes tap across the stage, it's hard not to be lost in a world of bright lights, fabulous costumes, feisty characters, Broadway smiles and swinging jazz music.

42nd Street is the tale of Peggy Sawyer, a young, ambitious singer dancer from small Allentown who hopes to make it big on Broadway.

The story begins at the height of the Great Depression, when Peggy stumbles in on auditions for a new musical called 'Pretty Lady', a last ditch attempt by producer Julian Marsh to keep his business going and create a show for him and his cast to be proud of.

One of the longest running Broadway musicals ever has lost none of its splendour over time. The sets and scenery were spectacular throughout and the numerous costume changes kept a busy cast on their toes. It had the perfect blend of acting, singing and dancing with songs such as 'Keep Young and Beautiful', 'We're In The Money' and of course '42nd Street' being the highlights of the show along with a host of impressive tap routines.

Expect stand out performances from Jessica Punch, who plays the endearing Peggy Sawyer, Rebecca Marks who plays sexy Anytime Annie and Ashley Nottingham who plays leading man Billy.

42nd Street runs until Saturday September 29 and anyone who likes a good old-fashioned musical should head down to the Lyceum.
