£3m pothole repairs fund

A CASH injection of £3.2 million is to be made to repair crumbling roads and footpaths around part of South Yorkshire.

Barnsley Council has agreed to spend the cash over the coming year, with £2 million earmarked for carriageways, £750,000 for footpaths and £410,000 on unspecified ‘medium term’ schemes - which Coun Bill Newman, cabinet member responsible for highways, said would be maintenance issues rather than winter damage such as pot holes.

The budget for road repairs in Barnsley was to be halved during 2011/12 but it was restored after staff accepted reduced terms and conditions.
