Sheffield could lose 28,000 voters from its electoral register by December, according to new research.

Anti-extremism campaign group Hope Not Hate says that the new individual voter registration system being implemented by the Government means that councils have been unable to verify 1.9 million people on the register nationally.

And it warns that, from December 1, they will drop off the register.

Campaign leaders have written to councils across the country to raise awareness and say students, those in black or ethnic minority groups or those who move house frequently are most at risk of dropping off the register because of the changes, which were brought forward by a year.
