A man has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting an elderly woman in her Sheffield home.
27-year-old Abraham Price, of Mill Lane, Brigg, South Humberside, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court this morning charged with burglary, attempt to cause a person to engage in a sexual act without consent, trespass with intent to commit a sexual act and inciting a person to commit a sexual act without consent.
He also faced two counts of fraud by false representation after police received a number of reports of elderly women being sexually assaulted in Walkley on August 7 and August 21.
Detective Superintendent Una Jennings said: “With limited lines of enquiry, officers worked tirelessly to identify a suspect. Within 48 hours of the second incident, a vehicle was stopped on the A18 and three men arrested. A 27-year-old man has since been charged and appeared in court this morning.
“I want to acknowledge the relentless and extensive work of our detectives to bring a man before the courts for offences which cause such significant concern across our city.
“DCI Lee Berry has ensured the best possible care and support for the women affected and will extend this support to any other women who wish to come forward.”
An investigation was launched on August 7 following the first incident and was stepped up further with a dedicated team of detectives when a second and third incident was reported on August 21.
Det Chief Insp Lee Berry, who is leading the investigation, is appealing for further information about these or similar offences in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 531 of 21 August 2018.
Two other men arrested on Thursday, August 23 have been released on bail.
