£25,000 for breast cancer

A UNIVERSITY of Sheffield breast cancer research project has received a £25,000 contribution from Hallmark Cards’ annual Cards for a Cure campaign for Mothers’ Day.

The project is looking at improving a treatment regime that combines chemotherapy, to stop cancer cells dividing, with the drug Avastin, which prevents cancer cells from developing their own blood supply and spreading.

The research, led by Professor Nicola Brown, will examine whether adding a drug called a ‘neuropilin blocker’ can make it more effective at preventing breast cancer growth and spread.
