20mph bid to protect pupils

RESIDENTS have called for streets close to a Sheffield school to have their speed limit cut to 20mph.

Woodseats resident Tom Hunt has contacted Sheffield Council’s south community assembly requesting the lower limit on Hackthorn, Broxholme, Aisthorpe and Nettleham Roads, near Woodseats Primary School.

He said: “A high proportion of pupils come from these roads and parents are worried by speeding drivers using them.

“A 20mph zone here could bring protection to a large number of school children.”

Mr Hunt is collecting signatures from parents and residents for the 20mph zone.

The Star has also received suggestions for 20mph zones in areas including High Green and Firth Park.

Council community assemblies have been allocated £280,000 to create 20mph zones on residential streets to reduce risk of accidents.
