The firm, based on Joiner Street on the Wicker, is advertising for app developers, quality assurance and platform engineers and data scientists in a move set to increase the 40-strong technical workforce by 50 per cent.

Total staff numbers, including admin and business development workers, will hit 62.

The firm was set up three years ago.

The Floow’s tracking software reveals how well – or badly – a car is being driven. It sells to insurance companies who set premiums accordingly.

Co-founder Sam Chapman said: “We believe that success brings with it responsibilities and we are equipping The Floow to meet the extraordinary opportunity the market is offering us.

“We have decided to accelerate our investment in talented resources, building on the incredible team in place in Sheffield.”

Last year the company struck deals with Nissan-Renault and a Chinese firm with 3.2m customers. It follows a host of contracts with Direct Line in the UK and insurers in Canada, Ireland and the US, as well as breakdown company the American Automobile Association.

Mr Chapman added: “A key motivation in founding The Floow was the creation of a professional platform where everyone can stretch and unlock their potential without limits to talent and character.

“We’re proud of our Sheffield roots and links with both of the city’s universities, and also the diversity of our people, coming from leading computer science, physics, aerospace engineering and mathematics courses in York, Warwick and Oxford.”
