Work has started on a £1m gym expansion project at Sheffield’s award-winning English Institute of Sport.

And virtual technology has revealed for the first time what the new three-storey Fitness Unlimited complex at the Attercliffe venue will look like.

The video flythrough shows a dedicated weights gym – one of the biggest in the city – which will include bench lifting stations, pure strength machines and a variety of dumbbells.

Expected to open in October 2013, the gym, which is being expanded to accommodate people who currently use Don Valley Stadium gym, will also feature new cardio facilities including bikes, rowers, treadmills and cross trainers.
The top floor will be home to 35 spin bikes with the virtual cycling product MyRide.

A further 90 additional pieces of Technogym weights and cardio machines are also being installed at the new Fitness Unlimited development.

Lorenzo Clark, director of operations for Sheffield International Venues, which runs EIS, said: “Work is well under way ahead of the opening. The complex will cater for Fitness Unlimited members, as well as those using Don Valley Stadium, and will set the standard for gyms in Sheffield.”
