The summer holidays are finally here, and luckily for all the parents in the city, there are no shortage of things to do in Sheffield in the coming weeks.

‘The Tales of Beatrix Potter’ will be brought to life this evening, with an interactive theatre production by Theatre Deli Sheffield for all ages at The Ampitheatre, South Street Park. Visit Eventbrite for tickets to this pay as you feel event.

- Sheffield By The Sea kicks off today and will be running throughout August at the city’s Peace Gardens, daily from 10am to 6pm. This free event gives you and your family the chance to build sandcastles on the pop-up beach, enjoy rides, inflatables, mini golf, water fun, and plenty of tasty treats without leaving the city centre.

- Join Sheffield Hallam University for a free fun-packed day of interactive activities, experiments, arts and crafts, and a treasure hunt around the campus, for children aged 4-13 and their families. No need to book, simply show up tomorrow from 10am to 3pm, to the Howard Street campus.

- Roll up! Roll up! Weston Park Museum will be exploring the spectacular story of circus in Sheffield at a brand new summer exhibition. The exhibition will open this Saturday with a thrill-packed launch event, that will give local families the chance to learn circus skills from the incredible experts at Greentop Circus. Have a go at aerial skills, trapeze, tightwire, juggling and diabolo, have your face-painted, and eat plenty of popcorn and candy floss, at the museum from 11am to 4pm.

- Grease is the word, so head to the Montgomery Theatre on August 2 for a night out with this family favourite, performed by some of Sheffield’s emerging young talent.

- Sheffield will be transformed into a city of LEGO® bricks, from August 4-17, as Sheffield Bricktropolis comes to the city centre. LEGO fans will be able to explore a stunning landmark models, plus a custom model of one of Sheffield’s most famous buildings. For kids, there will be free workshops running throughout the fortnight, with thousands of LEGO bricks ready to be transformed into whatever imaginations can conjure up, suitable for ages four and up. - Meadowhall will host a Slime Masterclass on August 4, in conjunction with the Magna Science Adventure Centre. Poke it, squish it, stretch it. The interactive hands-on sessions is perfect for children aged 5-12 years, and will run from 10am to 3pm. Places are limited, so visit visitmagna.co.uk for tickets.

- Get out into nature with a Family Bushcraft Day, hosted by Howl Bushcraft on August 4. The session covers everything from the essential skills needed to spend a night in the woods, to how you can get the most out of your family time outdoors. Centered around play and working as a family you’ll make a fire together, cook your lunch and build a shelter at the session, running from 10am to 4.30pm. Visit howlbushcraft.com for tickets.

- Do you have a budding thespian in the family? Annie Summer School will be running at Sheffield Library Theatre, from August 6-11, where Ruth Carney willwork with a cast of children, aged eight and upwards, to produce a shortened version f the hit musical Annie in just five days, followed by three weekend performances. Rehearsald will run from 10am to 4pm Monday to Thursday, with one performance on Friday after a final day of rehearsal, and two on Saturday. - The Little Mermaid Outdoor Cinema comes to Cannon Hall Farm in Barnsley on August 9. - Zippos Circus will be in Sheffield on August 9 until August 13 at Endcliffe Park, Rustlings Road. Celebrate 250 years since the invention of circus with this all-new show, featuring a cast of international artistes. Visit zippos.co.uk for tickets.

- Insert some wow factor into the summer with a visit to Walking with Dinosaurs, when it returns to Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena on August 10. Seen by over 9 million people in more than 250 cities around the world, this dazzling $20 million production features new, state of the art technology, making this the biggest and best dinosaur show in the world. - The South Yorkshire Festival returns to Wortley Hall on August 12, with stalls, a BBQ, fish and chip shop, outdoor marquee with bar and refreshments, live music, donkey rides, a bouncy castle, kids rides, face painting, wall climbing and much more. Entry to the event, from 11am to 5pm, is free.
