Tiger Works, a busy and popular bar on West Street, in Sheffield city centre, was forced to close due to Covid restrictions.

But last week it opened its doors as a drop off point for items to be delivered to S6 Foodbank.

Beth Campbell, aged 21, who works at Tiger Works, and flat mate Lauren Flook, were inspired to do something when the media coverage about food parcels supplied for school children during school holidays championed by Manchester and England footballer Marcus Rashford .

Beth said: “We saw the Marcus Rashford campaign about families getting food parcels – they’ve just been nothing and they’re supposed to be worth £30.

"While there has been no bar and nothing to do we thought we could help.”

They discussed their idea with Tiger Works owner Joanne Zsirai, who was more than happy to use the building as a drop off point.

Beth added: “It went really well. We got 920 items altogether, there was loads.”

Tesco, on West Street, and Cathedral Hygiene were two of the local businesses that donated items.

Joanne said: “It went really well. It was brilliant we got a lot more than we thought we would.”

She added: “Tesco were brilliant. I emailed them they brought mostly toiletries things they could have easily sold.

"Cathedral Hygiene brought loads as well. They were really generous.

“People brought in not just tins of carrots, but lots of bags of nappies and toiletries which aren't cheap, so we are really really pleased.”

The collection was so successful they had too many items to take by car to the foobank.

A local company called Branwell Relocation generously donated a vehicle to move the items.

Although the group have been approached on social media, they are unsure if they will repeat the event again.
