Regionally, houses in Yorkshire take an average of 62 days to sell in May, compared to the 86 days it takes for a January listing.

Potential purchasers who are looking to move fast and be in a brand new home for the summer, can also take advantage of the housebuilder’s Part Exchange Scheme at Pembridge Park in Auckley, Doncaster.

The scheme enables a quick move and no estate agent fees. Movers can sell their existing property to the housebuilder - getting fair value based on two independent valuations, and purchase a new build home on their chosen development.

To celebrate May being ‘moving month’, the housebuilder is also offering top tips for families with children who are looking towards a summer move;

Moving house can sometimes be a lengthy process; taking advantage of the speedy success that house sellers see in May in comparison with the rest of the year can reduce the wait and help deliver a summer of fun in a new home.

Get the kids involved

While it might seem like a tricky task, don’t be afraid to get the children involved in moving house. It can be a very exciting time for the whole family, and even packing up their rooms can be turned into a fun game with rewards. If you’re moving to a new place, be sure to explore the local area and go on trips out so they feel familiar with their new environment.

Use the school holidays to your advantage

Listing your house for sale in May will give you the best chance of ensuring you’re moved into a brand new house in time for the summer holidays. That means you can make the most of spending time with family and friends, as well as give you time to settle into the community and put down roots in your new area. If you’re looking to move your children to new schools then starting a brand new school year also ensures a smoother transition in their education.

Prepare ahead of time

The spring season can be a great time to spring clean and de-clutter your house. Packing up all the things you don’t use on a daily basis can save a lot of time and fuss when it comes to moving out of one house and into another. Making sure boxes are well labelled by room and easily transferable can also take a lot of the stress out of the big move.

Get creative

Allowing your children to have a say in what colours their rooms are and what furniture is included will help them get excited about moving into a new house. Creativity and fun is key for keeping your children happy while moving house. Packing boxes can make for brilliant craft activities.

Paul Hogan, sales director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, said: “With the reveal of these new stats we thoroughly recommend people contemplating selling their home to make the most of May being ‘moving month’. For families the summer months are a perfect time to move into a brand new house, as there are longer daylight hours, better weather and the school holidays coming up.”

Amanda Bradley, New Homes North Account Manager at Rightmove, added: “In terms of selling trends throughout the year, we see that people prefer to sell their houses and be moved into a new one for the summer time. Perhaps the allure of long evenings in the garden and enjoying quality time with family and friends in a dream home could play a part, as May is really the month we feel like summer is just around the corner.”

David Wilson Homes currently has its Pembridge Park development in Auckley. Homes are available from £154,995. To find out more, visit: www.dwh.co.uk/pembridgepark or https://www.dwh.co.uk/Offers/Part-Exchange/
