Man in hospital with Covid after travelling to South Yorkshire from Blackpool to see aunt

A man who ended up in hospital with Covid after travelling from Blackpool to Doncaster has been fined £200 for breaking lockdown rules.

PC Jordan Whitworth told how he was sitting with a prisoner on Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Covid ward when the patient was brought in yesterday evening,

He said the man had driven from Blackpool to Thorne to visit his aunt and after being bought in with coronavirus symptoms had tested positive for Covid-19.

"This is completely unacceptable and he has now put his own family at risk!” said PC Whitworth.

"This is a reminder that we will continue to attend at addresses where people are breaching the guidelines and putting their friends and family at risk. These people are putting unnecessary strain onto our NHS and we will issue tickets and put people in front of a court if we need to!

"We need to stick together, stay safe and hopefully this lockdown can be lifted in the not so distant future.”
