The Referee: Andre Marriner will oversee the game, while Michael Oliver is the VAR, meaning two of England’s most experienced officials are scheduled to govern this weekend’s game. Marriner averages 2.61 cautions per game this season and booked two players, albeit none from United, when he took charge of their draw with Fulham in October. He has not issued a red card since November 2019.

The Goals Column: Spurs have scored an average of 1.76 goals per game in the PL this term and conceded 0.94, a figure bettered only by Manchester City. United score an average of 0.5 per game and concede 1.6.

The Form Guide: Tuesday’s win over Newcastle was United’s first PL victory this season, although they also beat Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend. Spurs travel north unbeaten in six in all competitions. However they have not won a PL match away from home since the beginning of November.

The Last Time: Sander Berge, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie were on target when United beat Spurs at Bramall Lane in July, although the visitors had an equaliser controversially ruled out by VAR following the Norwegian’s opener. Harry Kane netted a consolation for the Londoners.

The History Lesson: This will be the 93rd meeting between these two clubs, with United winning 29 of those compared to Spurs’ 36. The last of the 27 draws they have played out came in north London last season, when the visitors had a goal controversially disallowed for a marginal offside earlier in the move. George Baldock was later on target for United, who went on to finish the campaign in ninth place.
