Kean Bryan and Oli Burke were the goalscoring heroes for the Blades, as they netted either side of Harry Maguire’s equaliser against his boyhood club.

Here’s how we rated United’s players as they secured their first league win at Old Trafford for almost 50 years.

Was quick off his line to head away after a ball over the top but was relieved to hear the ref's whistle after dropping a ball under pressure from Maguire and seeing Martial slot it home. Was more decisive late in the game when he made his mind up to come and claim a lofted cross, and held on to it confidently. Hardly had a major save to make but was spot on in his handling under pressure late on.

George Baldock 8

Returned to the Blades line-up at the expense of Jayden Bogle and grew in confidence as the game went on. One superb piece of interplay with McGoldrick down the right wing saw them look like players in a team at the top end of the table, rather than the bottom. Stuck his head where it hurts late on to snuff out a Cavani chance.

Chris Basham 8

Had an early foray forward after showing good instincts to cut out Rashford's attempted pass. Read the play so well as Cavani linked up well with Fernandes and looked to get in behind, but Basham was in the way. Will have had his heart in his mouth when van de Beek robbed him in United's area, but Jagielka was there once again to clear

Phil Jagielka 9

Made a rare start for the Blades with Egan suspended and was colossal for the most part, organising the United defence and putting his head and body in the way of most things Man Utd threw at United. Was evaded by Maguire for Man Utd's equalising goal, but the header was superb. That was his only misstep all evening and he'd have probably have got a perfect 10 but for that. Exceptional display considering he's 38 years of age

Ethan Ampadu 8

Did well to force Greenwood wide as he bore down on goal after latching onto a through-ball. A commanding defensive display, including a lung-busting sprint half the length of the pitch after intercepting a pass and seeing the game open up in front of him. His best display by some distance in a United shirt

Kean Bryan 9

Preferred to Max Lowe at left wing-back, the former Manchester City man made a couple of big challenges early on on Greenwood down the hosts' right wing. Had the Blades dreaming when he rose highest to head them in front, off the post. Was withdrawn in the second half but played a huge part in a remarkable victory

Ollie Norwood 9

What a way to answer his critics after his difficult time against Spurs. Was excellent at both sides of the game in the first half - spraying passes nicely, controlling the tempo for United and then nailing Pogba in a tackle on halfway. Played his part in an outstanding rearguard effort to see out the victory

John Lundstram 8

Walked a tightrope for most of the game after picking up a booking for dragging back the advancing Rashford. Did his part as one third of a midfield three to see out victory

John Fleck 9

Lovely turn took him away from Matic and later nutmegged Wan-Bissaka before being taken out by Tuanzebe, giving United a bit of an injury scare as he stayed down holding his knee. But he carried on and looked back to his best, especially considering the calibre of opposition

Billy Sharp 8

Had an early chance for the Blades when he was sent clear but De Gea saved, and replays suggested Sharp may have been offside anyway. Worked tirelessly up against Harry Maguire before being withdrawn after 70 minutes, for Oli Burke

David McGoldrick 9

Intelligent play to win the corner from which United opened the scoring, and will have fancied himself to make it 2-0 but for a tug from Tuanzebe which went unpunished. Almost scored what would have been an outrageous goal when he let fly with the outside of his boot, and the shot wasn't too far away from finding the top corner. A constant threat, he was replaced by Brewster with 10 minutes of normal time remaining.

Subs

Jayden Bogle 8

Came in at left-back ahead of Max Lowe and kept Wan-Bissaka quiet

Oli Burke 9

Replaced skipper Sharp for the last 20 minutes of normal time and had a very quick impact as his shot deflected off Tuanzebe and beat De Gea to put the Blades back in front.

Rhian Brewster n/a

Replaced the excellent David McGoldrick with 10 minutes of normal time remaining and pressed well despite not really seeing much of the ball
