“Look at what happened…” – Sheffield Wednesday’s season won’t be defined this week

The Owls travel to Stoke City tomorrow night before hosting Birmingham City on Saturday, and the tightness of the Championship means that they could potentially climb up a fair few places in the league table.
As things stand, Wednesday are back in the relegation zone after Derby County’s win over the weekend, however could climb as high as 19th if other results go their way in the midweek games.

Hide Ad‘Thommo’, who has overseen an impressive turnaround in fortunes at Hillsborough since coming in on an interim basis, says that he’s well aware of Stoke’s run of just one win in their last 15 in all competitions – but insists it doesn’t mean it’ll be easy.
Speaking to the club’s official website on Sunday, he said, “We’ve been training this morning, we are back in tomorrow and we have a big week ahead of us…
"We have Stoke on Tuesday and Birmingham on Saturday and that’s a game that could be described as a six-pointer but you can only get three points and that has to be our aim for every game we play.
“What happens this week will not define our season but the remit is simple, to get as many points as we can between now and the rest of the season.”

Wednesday have had a short break in play after their game against Swansea City was postponed on Saturday, so will be hoping to use that bit of extra rest up against a Stoke side that were beaten 4-1 by Norwich City over the weekend.
The two teams lock horns at the Bet365 Stadium at 7pm tomorrow night, with Thompson hoping for back-to-back Wednesday away wins for the first time since September 2019.
