The new technology is being installed at Cineworld Sheffield in time for the release of new James Bond film Spectre on October 26.

There are currently only seven cinemas in the world that has the laser projection fitted, with the only other British location in London’s Leicester Square.

The technology is designed to provide ‘sharpest, brightest, clearest and most vivid digital images ever’ with improved sound.

All films presented through the new system will be digitally remastered specifically for IMAX with laser.

The new Sheffield auditorium will include 548 seats for 2D screenings and 460 seats for 3D screenings, plus a curved screen that is taller than two double-decker buses.

It comes as Cineworld Sheffield also prepares to open a 4DX screen this month, which will include high-tech motion seats and special effects such as wind, fog, bubbles, water, rain and scents.
