Staff from a Sheffield care home who donated money instead of sending Christmas cards last year used the cash to buy and plant a tree.

It is to be planted in the grounds of Anchor’s Eagle House Care Home, Stalker Lees Road, Sharrow, on Monday, for residents to enjoy when they are sitting out in the gardens.

Joanne Thornhill, Eagle House manager, said “While it is nice to send Christmas cards, I think my residents will have a lasting legacy as they watch the tree grow and blossom each year.”
