Strange Facebook glitch sees users' news feeds filled with posts to celebrity pages amid rumours of hacking

Instead of Facebook’s normal news feed, scores of users have reported only seeing posts made on pages they follow, including those belonging to celebrities, by random members of the public they do not know.

They include posts on the official pages of celebrities such as Eminem and Billie Eilish, in which users have asked the person in question to ‘follow’ them on social media, and have told them they are ‘big fans’ of their work.

The mystery glitch seems to be affecting both users in the UK and the US.

Website, DownDetector, offers real-time status and outage information for a number of internet providers and online services such as Facebook.

It shows there has been a spike in the number of UK users experiencing an outage between 6am and 10am, with thousands reporting issues so far today.

Fed-up users have taken to rival social network, Twitter, to discuss the issue, with some suggesting the issue is down to Facebook being hacked.

Liz Scott said: “Anyone else’s Facebook timeline filled with random bots posting on famous people’s walls? Has Facebook been hacked?”

Rsrs_1 added: “Is Facebook hacked or something? My timeline is filled with people posting on celebs walls…”

Keith Campion said: “Facebook has gone a bit crazy this morning. Anyone else have a feed of people posting weird things to celebrities?”

Elle posted: “Anyone else’s Facebook now just randomers posting on pages that you follow? Literally none of my timeline is anyone I know?”
