TECH TALK: Viofo A129 Duo Dashcam
With motoring personal injury claims clawing in billions, honesty on the roads often flies out of the window in the event of an accident – that’s why you need a dash cam you can depend on to set the record straight.
An angel on the hard shoulder when it’s your word against theirs, the cost-effective, easy to use Viofo A129 Duo dual-channel wi-fi dash camera is a driver’s best friend, capturing quality footage without compromise from both front and rear cameras for the ultimate peace of mind.
High spec and effective without unnecessary add-ons, the user-friendly A129 has all the desired essentials including GPS, G-sensor and parking mode, plus handy wi-fi ideal for app use or downloading videos to your phone.
With Sony Starvis Image Sensor on both front and rear cameras, the A129 duo captures optimum footage in 1080P at 30fps - from both front and rear cameras - whilst Wi-Fi and GPS track the date, time, speed and your location, which is often crucial in disputes.
It doesn’t add unnecessary features and frills and does the basics well, with the same sensor and lens in both cameras, so you don't have to compromise on the quality of the rear-facing video, and having the rear camera doesn't reduce the quality of the front camera.
It hugs the windscreen instead of hanging down and has a two-inch screen so you don't need to use the app to adjust the camera to the right angle. It's not a touchscreen, but the buttons below the screen are fine. It's best to use two USB cables - one for power and one for the rear camera - before you stick the mount onto your windscreen to ensure there's enough space to connect and disconnect them.
A standard power adapter for a 12V socket is included - which cleverly has two USB ports so you can still charge your phone as well as power the dash cam. If you enable parking mode, video is recorded at a slow frame rate: you can pick 1-, 5- or 15fps.
Recordings begin in this mode when the motion detection and the G-sensor are triggered. And in a firmware update Viofo added the ability to buffer, which means recordings will show only from 15 seconds before the moment of impact and 30 seconds after. Motion detection mode means recordings will be made at 30fps whenever motion is detected.
