There’s nothing like a hit of Chinese after a weekend writing about stabbings and firearms.
Tucked in an unassuming corner of Upperthorpe, Shanghai Garden was perfectly placed to provide it.
A chicken fried rice and an egg foo yung was served in 10 minutes flat, and at under £8 for two decent portions, represented good value.
The chicken fried rice was average - a little dry, and relatively tasteless. Chicken pieces were tender, but too sparse. It hit the spot, but there are far better examples out there.
The foo yung was reasonable, but overloaded with beansprouts. With twice as much egg and half as many beansprouts, it would have been great.
Decent value, good service, only okay food.
