Olympic superstar Becky Adlington made a splash in Sheffield – as she sounded the claxon on a national challenge to get people swimming.

The idea of the SwimBritain programme, taking place this month, is to inspire Brits to get into the water and enjoy swimming at their own pace.

Becky, 24, from Mansfield, visited Ponds Forge in the city centre, where she said: “These initiatives are so important to get people swimming and to have fun with it.”

The event in Sheffield marked the first weekend in a month of events taking place nationwide – Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds, comic David Walliams, and former world champion Keri-anne Payne are all involved.
