“We want to promote the industry as much as we possibly can,” the Michelin Guide team said, explaining their decision to publish a 2021 edition of the gastronomic bible.
“We all have memories of great meals, of favourite restaurants, of nights out with friends. Restaurants will not be closed forever and someday soon we will be able to start making plans.
"We will have birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate; family to meet; dates to go on – and for all these things and more we will choose restaurants. The world of hospitality is embedded in our culture and will soon be part of our everyday lives once again.”
Work on this year’s guide started in August 2019 and was largely complete when the first national lockdown began in March 2020, they said.

5. Samuel Fox Country Inn
The Samuel Fox Country Inn at Bradwell is a place where 'flavourful classic dishes have modern touches and make good use of seasonal local produce', the guide says.

6. Devonshire Arms at Beeley
The Devonshire Arms on Devonshire Square, Beeley, is another venue linked to Chatsworth. "A few pub favourites sit alongside some more interesting dishes and estate produce is used to the full," the guide says.

7. Lovage
Lovage, on Bath Street in Bakewell, is recommended for its modern British cooking. "The chatty, informative team are sure to put a smile on your face when they enthusiastically explain the modern menu of top quality, seasonal ingredients," the guide says.

8. The Gallery
The Gallery, owned by Chatsworth's Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and part of The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow, is praised for being a 'very comfortable restaurant' that is among the guide's 'most delightful places'. "Attractively presented modern dishes are creative yet restrained and show good balance, and many of the ingredients come from the estate farm.
