Sheffield has been named as one of the UK’s most alternative and quirky cities for travellers after something different.

The city was ranked 12th out of 20 UK locations where visitors can expect tourist destinations out of the ordinary.

The study, carried out by Leonardo Hotels, says Sheffield has 53 alternative tourist attractions, but does not state what they are.

A spokesman said: “The nature of holidaymaking is changing, as people shun traditional package holidays in favour of something a little different.

"From novel nature and quirky culture, to mind-blowing science and historic relics, we’ve analysed almost 4,000 entries from Atlas Obscura, TripAdvisor and UK UFO Sightings to find out the UK’s top alternative tourism destinations.”

London took top spot with a staggering 1,165 activities while Edinburgh takes the second spot, with 231 alternative activities. Third place went to Manchester.
