The beauty spot was the country’s first area to be declared a national park over 70 years ago in April 1951 and is home to many picturesque places.
Here are 9 of the best towns and villages where you could stay in and around the Peak Park for a fabulous staycation.
9. Chapel-en-le-Frith
Chapel-en-le-Frith is known as the 'Capital of the Peak'; independent shops, cafes and restaurants are some of its strengths, while visitors can walk up Eccles Pike near the town centre to take in views of all the major Dark Peak summits with a 360-degree panorama. Photo: LINDSEY PARNABY
10. Matlock
Matlock is another good base for a staycation in the Peak District as it has good transport links. Local attractions include the steam trains run by Peak Rail from Matlock to Rowsley, Crich Tramway Village, Matlock Bath Illuminations in September and October, Cromford Mills - the world's first factory system - and the Heights of Abraham, where a ride in a cable car between limestone cliffs affords wonderful views of the Derwent Valley.
