It’s said that the regional collective sigh of exultation has resulted in the breezy weather that we’re having today, although our weather sources could neither confirm nor deny such an occurrence. In fact they ignored our request for an answer entirely.
Anyway, if all goes to plan and UK domestic holidays away from home are permitted along with ‘Stage Two’ from April 12, then it looks like short breaks in self-contained accommodation with members of the same household will be able to go ahead. Win win!
This will change further when (or indeed ‘if’) ‘Stage Three’ comes into play, which will see hotels, hostels and B&Bs added to the mix — from May 17, all being well.
And, who can blame you for wanting to get away for a few nights? Not us. So, with that in mind here are six short holiday breaks across the UK (and nearby) that you can enjoy as a family of four (two adults and two kids up to the age of 12) for just £100 per night or, in some cases less.
1. The Orchard, Maidenwells, Wales
‘The Orchard’ is the ultimate in luxury glamping, set in a private location with stunning countryside views. And, we can’t lie, it looks absolutely stunning. Featuring a big decked area outside with a hot tub, plus a large grassed area and that’s just on the outside. Indoors you’ll find TVs with Netflix in all of the rooms, perfect for the kids and all of this is within perfect reach of some wonderful beaches. 2. Wheal Rose Lodge
This is a beautiful wooden lodge in Helston, just 3 miles from Porthleven. Featuring a fitted kitchen and shower room. Tastefully decorated and furnished, it is the perfect size for a family of 4 with the option of a couple of extra guests on a fold out sofa bed. Wheal Rose Lodge is situated on a picturesque golf course with beautiful, distant sea views. Set in a peaceful setting with few neighbouring houses, however, the local town and shops are a mere 5 minute drive away so you have everything you need within easy reach. Close to lots of National Trust walks and beaches, as well as historical Poldark Mine is a tourist attraction near the town of Helston in Cornwall. 3. Rose Cottage, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire
This charming stone cottage is perfectly placed for exploring this lovely part of the High Peak, and it’s just a short drive from Sheffield as well. Featuring a farmhouse style kitchen with electric oven and gas hob, two bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. It’s a lovely escape from the city. This attractive terraced stone cottage is set in a quiet corner of Chapel-en-le-Frith, just outside the pretty village of combs, perfect for walkers and also has a lovely pub/restaurant in walking distance. 4. Michill Cottage, Castleton, Derbyshire
This 17th century quaint cottage affords you glorious views of the Great Ridge from the double bedroom, and it’s just 2 miles from Hope. This is less of a staycation and more of a cute destination ripe with opportunities for exploring Castleton and it’s surrounding areas. . The views of the surrounding area are simply stunning, and Castleton is also home to a variety of tourist attractions including four underground show caves and Peveril Castle, perched high on a cliff.
