'Wonderful' independent festive fairs in Sheffield

From prints, posters and pins to home made scented candles and hand printed t-shirts and jumpers, shoppers will find something for even the pickiest gift receiver at an annual Christmas fair.

The Independent Christmas Art Market returns to DINA venue, City Centre, tomorrow - and it's the perfect time for you to start your festive shopping.

There will be over 25 makers there, who will each be selling their homemade goods. The majority of them are Sheffield-based and also make their products in the city.

Evelyn Albrow, Arts Programmer at DINA, said: "We always look forward to the Christmas market at DINA. It's always full of the loveliest people; the makers are brilliant and the visitors are really friendly so the atmosphere is great.

"We have such a wonderful variety of stalls; you can find original art prints, jewellery or indie published books to ceramics or scented candles so there's loads of choice for everyone.

"The prices are affordable and we believe it's always good to support local makers. Not only are you giving back to the community but you're getting something unique.

"There's always Christmas festivities going on here, whether it's our mulled wine or the many Christmas lights in the city centre to get people feeling Christmassy."

The fourth annual Christmas fair will be the first festive event for the shop, which is based on Cambridge Street.Evelyn added: "We have some lovely returning artists from our past markets but we also put out an open call so have loads of brilliant new makers joining us."It's really a mix of people selling their items too which is nice. There are some full-time professional makers and some who wish it was their full time job!"The stalls are incredibly varied for everyone's tastes and different budgets too."There will be lots of lovely things available to buy, including illustrated children's books, embroidery, collages, hand crafted textiles, ceramics, linocuts, indie published books, hand made leather jewellery, engraved chopping boards, up-cycled earrings and unique cards.

Evelyn said the makers also support each other, with them often buying Christmas gifts for their own friends and family from each other. She added that the staff often leave the event with a few presents too."The temptation is too great to resist! It's also a perfect place to get all your Christmas shopping done without having to leave the venue."The Independent Christmas Art Market will be held tomorrow from 10am to 5pm.
