Retailers have been permitted to stay open under the current Tier 3 restrictions, while most of the east and south-east of England have been placed in Tier 4.
Although many have chosen to do their Boxing Day shopping online due to the current pandemic, hundreds of masked shoppers were pictured queueing outside shops or just enjoying a festive stroll through the city centre.
