Shocked TJ Hughes staff told Sheffield store had shut down ‘at end of their shift’

Bosses at the department store chain revealed plans last week to shut their store on The Moor and appoint administrators for a ‘small number’ of its outlets nationwide.
But staff were not given an official closing date and only informed of the shop’s imminent closure ‘at the end of their shift’ last night (Thursday, February 27).

Hide AdAn anonymous staff member who made the claim said workers had been left ‘shocked’ that they had been given no warning, stating: “We have all lost our jobs and have families and bills to pay.”
In a statement, the firm said: “We are extremely saddened by the need to take this decision, and it hasn’t been taken lightly.
“However, the retail world is changing quickly, and it is necessary for our business to evolve.”
