Kandy Renshaw, owner of first place salon Top Salon, Barnsley Road, said she was 'very pleased’ when she heard she had won the accolade after previously coming in second and third in our annual competition.

She added: “I’ve won second and third in the competition before so it's good to come in first. It's our 30th birthday next year as well, so this is like having an early birthday present.”

Kandy, who has 35 years experience in hairdressing, said she will be proud to display her first place certificate next to her previous ones in the salon. She works alongside colleagues Donna Holland and Fay Allen and said she thought it was the friendly atmosphere that helped them take the top spot.
