Due to the pandemic this years fashion weeks in London, Milan, New York and Paris were mainly digital rather than live catwalk shows to present designs for Spring/Summer 2021.

From these shows we always identify key trends which will reach our local stores, but sometimes its hard to know how to wear them. In this edition we are celebrating bold stripes and the luxe of tulle fabric.

So where better to start looking in Sheffield for bold colour and full skirts than at Miss Samantha’s Vintage on South Road in Walkley. Established in 2018 this independent boutique is stocked to the rafters with incredible colour, print and accessories all with the vintage style.

Owner Sam says “I’m proud to offer such a range of clothing but also in a range of sizes from 8-22. I started the shop as a dream after falling in love with vintage style, and also being fed up of not finding a good dress to suit me!

"I’m so glad I made the decision to open – I pride myself on taking time with customers, some who know what they want and some who need to gain confidence with their clothing choices.”

It is fair to say we could have selected lots of outfits in here, but the one we settled on really reflects our selected key trends. We teamed the full navy skirt with a colour pop red tulle skirt underneath (think like a ballerinas tutu),

which along with the belt, gives a great nipped in waist and subtle use of tulle.

The colour block vest is under the most amazing cardigan, colour blocked with rainbow stripes – we simple had to share this as the rainbow is definitely the weather kind we’ve spoken about the most recently!

The beauty of this is the stripes are a flattering diagonal. A general rule to follow is that horizontal stripes can widen and vertical stripes can lengthen – diagonal works perfectly

for all body sizes too.

Miss Samantha’s has so many accessories – we had to include some to really finish the look in style. The very traditional and secure clasp-fasten bag has a

flower corsage attached, which could also be used as a brooch or hairclip, and the jewellery which is all vintage.

“I feel really gorgeous and feminine!” said our local model is Katherine Littlejohn, from Kelham, who works as a Data Analyst “I think I would have steered clear of wearing such bright colours all at once, but this has totally changed my mind.”

The tulle skirt is versatile to go under other full skirts and could be made to look even more glam with a close-fitting top, or nod towards to new look made

famous by Christian Dior and be worn with a tailored jacket.

The cardigan works well also with blue denim jeans and trainers to give it a relaxed feel, and can also be worn buttoned up to really show the stripes.

Katherine said “This is certainly made me celebrate colour more, and I will be back here – there’s so much to choose from in the boutique!”
