Even superheroes need to pick up some essentials when they’re not busy saving the planet - so Spiderman, Batman and Captain America dropped in at Crystal Peaks.

A whole host of comic book favourites were at the Sheffield shopping mall for the WOSCon Superheroes Assemble Takeover event.

During the three days there was a chance to meet the action heroes, take a seat on the Batpod - a replica of the motorbike used by Christian Bale’s Batman in the Dark Knight films - and be impressed by Gorilla Guy, an animatronic melding of man, machine and animal.

There was also a selection of rare comics on display from the World of Superheroes ‘Vault’ collection – all based on the Avengers Superhero series.

The event was promoting WOSCon, which comes to the University of Sheffield Students’ Union and Octagon Centre on August 1 and 2.

Fans will be given the chance to meet original Star Wars star Dave Prowse, the actor who donned the Darth Vader suit for the first film in the series.

WOSCon tickets, £12 or £10 for students and free for children under six, are available via the website
