Sheridan Smith biopic sends Cilla back to the charts

Cilla’s Anyone Who Had a Heart is set to make a sensational return to the charts - fifty years after it first hit the top spot thanks to a resurgence in her music following the screening of ITV biopic Cilla starring Smith. The track, which earned the Liverpudlian singer her very first No. 1 in 1964, is hotly tipped to re-enter the Top 40 on the Official Singles Chart on Sunday.

It currently ranks at No. 46 in a mid-week update.

Thousands flocked to iTunes to download the classic after 6.2 million viewers tuned in to see Sheridan, 33, sing it on Monday.

And Cilla has even more reason to celebrate because by re-entering the singles chart this weekend she will have achieved her first Top 40 hit in four decades.

The singer’s last Top 40 song was 1974’s Baby We Can’t Go Wrong which reached No. 36.

She last charted in the Top 100 over 20 years ago in 1974 when Heart and Soul, a duet with Dusty Springfield, came in at No. 75.

In her heyday, however, the iconic singer-turned-TV star scored two number one singles, and a further two songs reached the top three.

Cilla, which concludes next week, is ITV’s highest-rated drama launch since Broadchurch and has earned critical acclaim for Smith.
